The Language of Strengths
|What might be the first step in implementing our wellness instructional program? One avenue is to simply use the language of strengths giving students a lens from which to better understand themselves. We of course will start with strengths that deal with character but there are other opportunities that further support student self-awareness.
For example, Sarah is using the language of strengths with her fifth graders in teaching multiple intelligences. (Note: The theory of multiple intelligences is not the same as learning styles.) Sarah is helping her students see the intelligences as strengths.
Just as we approach character strengths in that we have all of them, we can do the same with the intelligences. It is up to the students to “exercise” and grow each of their learning strengths.
