Moving From Languishing to Flourishing
|A few weeks ago I wrote about the common experience of languishing that many people around the world were reporting after a year of quarantine. If you had the same experience, you might have taken a personal assessment through the lens of Positive Psychology to ask yourself How Is My PERMAH Today? You might have taken pen to paper to write out the status of your PERMAH using a worksheet something like this one. The next step, if needed, might have been to work on your personal wellness plan or possibly jumping into some big time planning around making a PERMAH supported pivot in your life.
If the plans offered in the above links seem too daunting, you can go back through previous posts in this blog for self-care activities and strategies to further engage your character strengths in the PERMAH pillars. Another option is to read the article “The Other Side of Languishing is Flourishing. Here’s How to Get There“. 🙂
The article lists the follow activities which can help you make the shift from languishing to flourishing.
- Assess Yourself – Take the provided Are You Flourishing? quiz or jump into the How Is My PERMAH Today? worksheet
- Savor and Celebrate!
- Engage in gratitude as much as you can
- Shift the Character Strength of Kindness/Love into high gear by doing multiple good deeds each day
- Look for Communities and Connections – Go big with the R of PERMAH
- Engage the Character Strength of being Purposeful in Everyday Routines while looking for connections to the M in PERMAH
- Try Something New – Dial up the strength of curiosity while possibly breaking some routines with a dash of the zest character strength
