Update on Recruiting | Congratulations on Exciting Weekend Events

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Greetings from sunny Dubai, where I am currently attending the Search Recruitment Fair with Jennifer Mendes and Dan Kerr. So far, we have already filled 3 positions, and are pleased to report that there is a great demand for SSIS positions.

Next school year, we will have 145 returning faculty and 10 returning administrators. We will also be saying farewell to 3 administrators,16 faculty members departing for new adventures, and 3 faculty members who will be retiring or semi-retiring. In addition to hiring for those who will be leaving, we have 12 brand new positions to hire for, bringing the total to 27.

I know that it is going to be another wonderfully busy few days on campus, this weekend. For one, we are hosting the Multilingual Learning Research Center (MLRC) Action Research Summit on Saturday and Sunday. 85 participants from Southeast Asia and other parts of the world will be attending. Congratulations and thank you to Trinh Lu, Najela Blaine-Hammond, and Ceci Galvez-Gomez for coordinating this exciting educational event.

Also, congratulations to Diana Sorobey, Jamie Brown, Deviyani Pathak, and Debate Program President Shannon Nguyen for the huge debate tournament that they will host on campus tomorrow, Saturday. Nearly 200 debaters from all over Vietnam will be competing at SSIS.  I also want to thank the judges for taking time out of their busy schedules to support this wonderful event, including Mark Adams, Regi Katz, Lennox Meldrum, Chris Cheronis, Melissa Hooper, Katie Freeman, Thomas Redfern, Kieu Pham, Eric Brown, and Katie Rigney-Zimmermann. Our goal is for SSIS to spearhead and support the development of debate across Vietnam, and we are working closely with the National Speech & Debate Association in the USA to achieve this goal.

Let us also wish the best of luck to the 73 grade 7 – 9 students from international schools across the city who will compete in tomorrow’s High School Math Competition, organized by students in Janie Cates’ Math Club. Good luck, everyone!

In more incredible Dragon news, I was just notified that the Boys’ team won gold in SEASAC Golf in Malaysia! And that Cross Country had several top finishes at SEASAC Cross Country! Go Dragons! As always, our athletes have all competed well and made us proud of how they represent the school.

With this, I wish you all a wonderful and fulfilling weekend wherever you may find yourself. Whether coaching, judging, chaperoning, or just relaxing, every one of you is contributing to this wonderful community that we have built. Thank you for all you do. I wish everyone headed out on the wonderful boat trip that the Sunshine Committee arranged a great evening! Thank you, Sunshine Committee!

See you all on Tuesday morning.

All good wishes,

Catriona
