Dear ES Team,
We have updated the Navigator to reflect some changes we are making to how we can best support our alternative recess opportunities (library, maker space, art room). You will find your class passes in your mailbox– please begin using these next week. Here is the updated text from the navigator:
Other Recess Opportunities:
During recess, students may elect to go to the Library, Makers Space, or Art Room. Each homeroom teacher will be given a limited number of passes to distribute to their students. Please review the below guidelines for these areas:
General:
- During morning recess, if the students are eating snack, they must do so in the atrium. After they are finished, they may go to the specified area.
- Students must report to the atrium at the end of recess to meet their class. They are not permitted to wait in the hall area on the second floor.
Maker Space:
Students in grades 1-3 may visit the Maker Space any day of the week during morning and lunch recess. Students in grades 4-5 may visit the Maker Space any day of the week during lunch and afternoon recess.
Students Expectations:
- Bring a pass with them to attend.
- Clean up area at the end of each session
- Make good choices
- Be calm
- Share materials
- Use materials appropriately
- Work together and listen to each other
- Include others, do not exclude them
- Follow the directions and instructions
- Use all the tools properly
- No food and drink in Maker Space
Open Art Studio:
Students in grades 2-5 may visit the Art Studio on Tuesday and Thursday during lunch recess.
Student Expectations:
- Bring a pass with them to attend.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the Art Room
- In order to give everyone an opportunity, students may only use an Art Studio pass once per week.
- Be respectful and take care of the art supplies so we can all enjoy them!
- Be responsible for signing and storing their own work if they do not finish in one session.
- Clean up after themselves
ES Library:
Students in grades 1-3 may visit the Library and day of the week during morning and lunch recess. Students in grades 4-5 may visit the Library and day of the week during lunch and afternoon recess.
During recess, students may:
- Check books in/out
- Read
- Use stations or special materials that may be available
Student Expectations:
- Bring a pass with them to attend.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the library except for school-sponsored events (e.g. Family Reading Nights).
- Computers and ipads should be left in the classroom during break time visits to the library.
- Library computers are available to search the library catalog, use the subscription databases, or read an online book or magazine from TumbleBooks, Flipster, etc. Library computers are not available for gaming, surfing the internet, etc.
- Be respectful and take care of the space and the resources so that they can be enjoyed by all!
