Sept. 12th – Sept. 16th

Positive emotion is much more than mere ‘happiness‘. Positive emotions include hope, interest, joy, love, compassion, pride, amusement, and gratitude.

Positive emotions are a prime indicator of flourishing, and they can be cultivated or learned to improve wellbeing

-Fredrickson

This quote really resonated this week as the PDL got started in earnest with their work. As we planned for lessons around positive emotions I could not help but reflect on all the ways in which SSIS embraces this with students and staff alike. The aspects of positive emotions have been demonstrated through events like Family Fun Day, where amusement and joy were evident, as well as social events that have been organized by all of you. Whether it is fantasy football, golf, cooking, learning Vietnamese or playing board games, you have all created a space for people to find positive emotions. And the by product for our students is teachers who are excited to come to work everyday and see students and colleagues alike.

Weekly Focus:

Super units are alive and well as we enter this week. Positive emotions (PE) is the pillar of focus for Super unit 1. Lets continue to create opportunities for students to embrace some of the characteristics of PE.

ASA’s

ASA’s are going strong. Some adjustments had to be made each day to ensure students were finding their ASA’s and being dismissed correctly. Thank you for your flexibility as we worked through this.

FIRE DRILL

Our first fire drill of the year is this week. Please go over the routine and procedures with your class and set the expectations for a safe and orderly evacuation.

When we do this we can share a joyful educator moment or share a shout out to a staff member who has brightened our day. You can find the form here!

Professional Development Opportunities: I have started a sidebar widget with links to amazing PD opportunities. If you know of others, please share with me, and I will continue to populate this.
