November 6th – 10th

And just like that, November is here. It’s remarkable how quickly time flies. Even though it feels like school just started, we’re already in November. As we reflect on the past 12 weeks, let’s take a moment to appreciate all that we have accomplished. Here’s a list of our achievements:

  1. Engaged in a 1-week professional development session on the Science of Reading, enhancing our understanding of effective reading instruction.
  2. Made significant progress in our WASC Self-Study, an important step towards accreditation.
  3. Implemented changes in our instructional practices for literacy.

  5. Organized parent coffees focused on assessment, fostering collaboration and understanding between teachers and parents.
  6. Participated in WIDA institutes, expanding our knowledge and expertise in supporting English language learners.
  7. Attended conferences and workshops tailored to specialists and homeroom teachers, furthering our professional development.
  8. Revived Digital Dragons, a program that promotes digital literacy and technology skills among students.
  9. Introduced Monthly Play Labs (also known as Lunch & Learn sessions) to explore the power of play in education.
  10. Collaborated with Megan Holmstrom, our math consultant, to enhance the math curriculum and ensure a comprehensive learning experience for our students.
  11. Engaged in GAI learning, leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to support teaching and learning.
  12. Started integrating Osmo, a communication tool, to facilitate math instruction in kindergarten.
  13. Launched the “Under the Weather” initiative in Grade 1, implementing data collection tools to better understand and address student health and well-being.

  15. Conducted co-planning training sessions, promoting collaboration and effective lesson planning among teachers.
  16. Provided professional development sessions focused on vocabulary acquisition and Tier 1 and Tier 2 vocabulary instruction.
  17. Supported colleagues who deliver ongoing professional development in literacy, covering topics such as word studies and vocabulary instruction.
  18. Collaborated as teams to develop rubrics for assessing reading and writing standards, using student data and the Global Assessment Index (GAI) as valuable resources.

While this list represents a significant portion of our accomplishments and growth, it is important to acknowledge that it is not an exhaustive account of everything we have achieved and learned. Nevertheless, we need to take a moment and reflect on the incredible work that has been accomplished so far. These achievements serve as a reminder of our unwavering dedication to continuous improvement and our commitment to delivering the highest quality education for our students. Together, we will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of our students and the broader educational community at SSIS.
