September 23rd – 27th
Friday night we officially opened our back field with a ceremony and soccer matches hosted by our HS girls and boys teams. The atmosphere was electric and it was so much fun to see our community come together and cheer our dragons on.
The beauty of this new space comes not only from organized events but also from how it’s used during downtime. Below, you’ll see a picture of some of our “flowers” who, let’s be honest, were being a bit mischievous with our new water table and sand. Watching them, I couldn’t help but think of prospectors digging for gold like the old 49’ers during the Gold Rush—except these little prospectors were more interested in creating chaos than striking gold! Of course, this picture also serves as a reminder that there’s always room for exploration and fun, even if it gets a bit messy. Thankfully, many students came together afterwards to help clean up and restore order to the sand area, showing that they still know how to take responsibility.
Now that we have this amazing back field and sport court, I encourage you to think about using it for your lessons—whether it’s a read-aloud, science, math, or writing activity. If you’re excited but not sure where to begin, I’m here to help brainstorm ways to bring your teaching outdoors. Let’s give our “flowers” a chance to bloom (and behave!) in new ways! 🌼
