This past weekend SSIS celebrated International Day. It was a lively celebration of diversity and unity, bringing together students, families, and staff to explore different cultures, cuisines, and traditions; The event not only boosted community bonding and cultural awareness but also instilled pride and a sense of belonging by showcasing global customs in a fun, engaging way. Thank you to the PTA and the many volunteers that made food or shared traditions from their home countries.
This week PD continues with EKC for our 1st – 5th grades. Please support your colleagues as they engage in very important professional development around literacy.
EKC PD THIS WEEK
On Wednesday through Friday, we welcome Margarita Mendez, an EKC strategist who will be working with KG-5 teams on building shared understanding around language comprehension, scaffolding all readers to a grade-level text, scheduling and planning for language comprehension. There are two big group sessions on Wednesday, two sessions for TAs’ learning after school on Wednesday and Thursday, and small group sessions for planning, demo labs and teaching labs across the three PD days. We will be popping into some classrooms during the first morning block on Wednesday as we show Margarita around and get her to see some literacy instruction in action. This week at the Full Steam Ahead conference, I witnessed an inspiring presentation by Ana and Terry, who showcased their innovative use of Magic School AI for student writing feedback. Ana and Terry demonstrated how they’ve leveraged Magic School AI to provide grade-level specific writing feedback, significantly reducing grading time while empowering students with greater agency in their writing process. The highlight was watching them teach other educators how to create custom AI bots aligned with their own rubrics, truly exemplifying how technology can transform traditional teaching practices. Their success in implementing this tool makes me incredibly proud and shows how thoughtful tech integration can enhance both teaching efficiency and student learning outcomes. I am available to help you introduce and use AI with your classes from Kindergarten to Grade 5.
