Week Ahead: May 18
|What a fun spirit week last week. Thank you all for supporting the students and joining in on the fun. Another big change took place last week with the departure of Mai Anh and the arrival of Sang. Thank you for your kind welcome of Sang and your support of her as she learns the ropes of her new position.
We are truly closing in on the end of the year. With just 18.5 days left, each day is going to feel jam packed – for us and for the students. Let’s all work together to make sure stress levels are bearable for all.

Art Party
This week is the MS Art Party and show. Rebecca is introducing the first Art Party here at SSIS. All MS art students (and some from 1st semester) are leading workshops, managing spaces, and generally demonstrating their awesome leadership and artistic skills. I hope that you can make time to swing through and see the magic in action. The workshops run from 3:15-4:30, and the general opening runs an additional hour until 5:30. There will be snacks too 🙂
Grade and Comment Timeline
Here is the timeline for grades and comments. You should enter the comments in the S2 bucket (with the exception of Exploratory electives for Grade 6 who will use the Q4 bucket):
- May 20 – Wednesday, 3:00-4:30; Work time on comments and grades
- May 27 – Wednesday, 3:00-4:30; Work time on comments and grades (recommend getting peer review on this Wednesday)
- June 5 – Friday, 3:00; Most comments entered; admin will review over weekend to assist with catching any typos / gender errors. I know some of you will be wanting to work through the weekend, so this is a ‘soft’ internal deadline. I’ll review what’s there.
- June 8 – Monday, 3:00; Grades and Comments completely entered; verification reports to be printed
- June 9 – Tuesday, 3:00; Verification reports checked and returned
- June 10 – Wednesday; Report Cards printed and sorted
- June 11 – Thursday; Report Cards (and other materials) sent home with students
End of the Year and Other Fun Things
This it the time of year where there is so much on the calendar it’s easy to miss something. I’m adding this section of upcoming events to assist us with that. Of special note are things that cause the schedule to be disrupted or altered. There are questions in there that need to be decided. If you have a particular opinion, email me or let your Team Leader know. Also, please let me know if there is something missed or that needs clarification:
- May 27 – Wednesday: 2-3? Senior Walk Through (won’t cause schedule change but will be a 10 min. disruption when they come through MS); 6-8 Drama Production (Helen will need some off timetable time with her students – I’ll get that ASAP).
- May 28 – Thursday: Orphan Impact teachers visit
- May 29 – Friday: HL schedule, StuCo speeches
- June 2 – Tuesday: 6-8pm Drama Performance (Helen will need some off timetable time with her students – I’ll get that ASAP)
- June 5 – Friday: 7-8pm MS Spring Concert
- June 8 – Monday: 9:30-11:30 (?) 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony (do we want to run a special schedule that day?); 3:00; Grades and Comments Due
- June 9 – Tuesday: 1-3 Splash Day (should we run an early release schedule that day?); 3:00; Verification reports
- June 10 – Wednesday: A-H schedule; Report Cards printed; 3:15-4:30 Final All School Full Faculty Meeting
- June 11 – Thursday (last day); Assembly?
- June 12 – Friday: 8-12 individual work; 12-1 Final Team meeting; 1-2 Final Divisional Meeting (would like to move this to AM for a divisional breakfast); 2-4 “Final Gathering” (not sure what this is right now, will find out; and we will review this with Leadership Team to confirm schedule of last day)
