Week Ahead: August 21

For the first full week of the year – it seemed to be running so smoothly that it seems like we’ve been in school for a month.  This is all testament to the great work you are all doing in orienting the students and helping them transition into a new school year.

On Friday, we are taking the Anniversary Photo.  We are the top of the 2 in the 20.  Please take an active role in helping our students stand in the correct place – within the yellow cones.  We may need to make adjustments in order to ensure that we fit – and that it actually looks like a 2 🙂  Take attendance first thing and then make your way out to the field.  Another fun thing – we will be handing out 20th anniversary cookies at the end of the day!

Power Outage Sunday:  A reminder that the power is going to be off at SSIS on Sunday.  In preparation for this, IT will be taking the servers off-line on Saturday.  This means no one – faculty or students – will be able to access the servers.  PowerSchool and Moodle will be unavailable.  Please be sure that any work you have set for students to complete over the weekend do not rely on Moodle.

Curriculum Night:  Curriculum Night is Thursday, starting at 6:00.  Here is the link to the Curr. Night doc.  It will be running the same as last year with each grade starting in a WWW presentation followed by a rotation through each block.  I have set an optional meeting on Tuesday before school (7:15-7:45) to review this information for anyone who would like a refresher or to just talk through it.  We will take a few minutes at the Divisional for final logistical details as well (but not time for questions and a thorough review).

StuCo Elections:  We need your support to help encourage students to run for StuCo Grade Level representatives.  The goal is to have multiple candidates for each grade level.  A general announcement is appreciated – and even more effective is to talk to encourage specific students to run.  Often students don’t see their own leadership potential!  Let’s help them find it.  Here is the rest of the StuCo election information (already emailed by Stacy – but can’t hurt to see it again):

  • Fri, Aug 19 – Sign ups begin (sign up form on Moodle)
  • Mon, Aug 21 – Executive Council will visit each Advisory to pitch StuCo elections
  • Thurs, Aug 24 @ 9:00 pm – Sign-up form closes.
  • Fri, Aug 25 @ lunch – Candidates prep speeches
  • Mon, Aug 28 in Advisory – Speeches and voting
    • G8 – Meet in A311 – Mark’s room
    • G7 – Meet in Library
    • G6 – Meet in Music Room

Tech Session Wrap Up: David is wrapping up the first series of Tech Sessions for students.  Thank you all who made time for this as it really helps our students start off the year successfully.  And thank you to David for continuing to provide excellent support to our students.  The last set of tech sessions happen on Monday.  Here are the last of Session 2:

  • Monday  Session 2

Apple TV Reminder:  Just a reminder about the new wifi for Apple TV.  When you need to connect to Apple TV, please change your wifi to SSIS-A. You will need to authenticate.

  • SSIS will continue work for internet and other network services.
  • SSIS-A will allow connection to the Apple TV for building A – as well as having the normal internet and other network services.
Under normal circumstances, students will remain on the SSIS wifi unless you want them to connect to the Apple TV.
