MS Week Ahead: Nov. 13-17

What a great week!  From the inspiration of Luka Lesson to watching our students give it their all on the courts and on the sidelines, it took a lot from faculty to make that all happen, and be so meaningful for our students.  Thank you so much for the work you do with kids!

When asked on the sub form “How did the class go for you?” one of the subs on Friday wrote “Students were more into the basketball games, but, overall, good.”  That, my friends, is a huge win!  Thank you for always understanding that education is more than the content – it’s the non-tangibles like learning how to cheer for your friends, how to support wins and losses the same, and how to manage busy schedules and transitions that are equally important for our students.

Here is what’s up next week (dare I say that it’s pretty calm?):

MS Coverage While I’m Out:  I’ll be at a Wellness Conference in Taipei – leaving Thursday and returning Sunday.  Jacob Hendrickson will be covering the MS on Thursday and Friday.  If you have any issues that come up and need immediate attention, please contact him right away.  In any emergency evacuation, Jacob will take lead.

WWW Coming Fast:  2 weeks until WWW.  Please be sure to be looking at information from your Team Lead carefully.  We want to be well prepared for WWW.  It’s going to be great – and the work you put in will be so appreciated by our MS students (even if they forget to tell you that).  To keep you up to date on some details from other trips:

Grade 6: Traveling to Mui Nei by bus.  Emily Wolf is team lead; Ryan Butz, Stephen Ada, Greg Jardin, Rick Friel, Erin Johnson, and David Rynne are on this trip.

Grade 7: Traveling to Madagui by bus.  Natalie Beals is team lead; Gary Bertoia, Erin Lu, Priscilla Schocket,  Eric Schoonard, Kate Werner, Gil Legaspi (covering for Stacy Crowell), and Bonnie Bertoia are on this trip.

Grade 8: Traveling to Dalat by plane.  Mark Crowell is team lead; Brian Benck, Andy Apgar (covering for Dawne Kaba), Vaughan Swart, Rebecca Jardin, Andrea Khambalia, and Molly Burger are on this trip.

We do have 2 people on ready back up in case someone gets sick … but I’m hoping that we will have all faculty well for the first time!

More on Vocabulary: From Tara Ronzetti, ES Literacy Instructional Coach: I read a quick article today reminding to of the top ways to support language development and vocabulary. One toll suggested was call WordSift.org. The tool essentially analyzes the language in a text by whatever criteria you have set. So a teacher can plug in a text and find all the domain-specific vocabulary, or all the prepositions. The possibilities of this tool give any text the potential to teach content or language principles.
