Week Ahead: Aug. 26-30

I’m filled with superlatives as I reflect on last night‘s Curriculum Night.  As individuals you are each amazing … as a team and a division, you are flat out incredible.  From the parents’ perspective, they saw teacher after teacher who they feel lucky their child gets to learn with and from.  The warmth, care, and expertise you were able to convey left them so incredibly thankful that their children get to learn here.

Student Council Rep elections on Wednesday:  We will be holding StuCo elections on Wednesday during DEAR time.  Gr 8 will be held in Geneva’s room; Gr 7 in the Dragon’s Den, and Gr 6 in the Auditorium.  The event will be lead by Executive Committee members.  They will need assistance in setting the tone for the speeches.  We expect that audience members be quiet during all speeches and respond appropriately with applause after each one.

DEAR:  This is the week for the DEAR kick off.  Claire has fine tuned the DEAR presentation that will be used on Tuesday.  Please review it before Tuesday and get all your questions answered from Claire.

Photo Week: It’s MS Photo Week. It will be in Room C016 (basement of building C). Please see below for Monday schedule and note that faculty and staff are required to wear professional dress. Men should wear shirts and ties.  If you don’t have to bring any class to get photos taken, you can go down there during the “MS Faculty.”  Yearbook is also setting up fun photo props for use in the yearbook.  Though it’s optional, be sure to encourage students (and yourself) to take both photos.  It makes for a very fun yearbook feature.

Evacuation Practice: We will be pre-practicing how we evacuate during an evacuation alarm on Thursday from 2:50-3:00.  I’m sorry for the interruption to G block, but we really need to practice regrouping on the field.  I will review this during the divisional meeting on Wednesday.  During the practice, we will be highlighting the following things:

  • silent exit, silent on the field
  • single file line at all times
  • regroup location (be sure your advisory students know your line #)

Databases:  From Claire’s email:  Attached is the list of databases and login information for each one. I am ordering more copies of these for curriculum night and will give you all a copy to make available in your room. More copies are always available in the library.

Other ways to access this information:
1. Tell students to navigate to my PowerSchool Learning page.
2. I put a copy of this handout on the MS Team Drive in a folder called MS Library. You can find that here.
3. If you log into the library catalog, you can access databases directly if you are already logged in.
To get to the catalog, type: https://opac.ssis.edu.vn or find it by going to Link > All > Library
