Final Week: June 1-5

As we reflect back on this last semester, there are many small wins along the way. And there are a few big ones. This Saturday was one of the biggest. Being able to pull off an in-person, properly social distanced, graduation was an incredible feat. Huge congratulations go out to Jacob and his team for making this event so incredible.

As we head into our last 2.5 days with students, let’s all work for the small wins. While some students are eager for the summer holiday, others are having more mixed emotions. And some are just down right not happy about it. This means that these last few days will likely bring more than a few meltdowns, and more than a few students who need us to be on our A game. Good thing we have that down! Proactive intervention and compassion … check!

Yearbook Distribution:  On Tuesday, we will be distributing yearbooks to all students during B block. Likely this will take 15-20 minutes of class time to watch the video (will celebrate the accomplishments of the yearbook class and cover important guidelines regarding writing in the books, sharing pens, etc.) and to distribute the books. You will need to ensure that ALL students write their names in their books. We also want students to check through the book to ensure there are no missing pages, upside down printing, or other issues with their book. Please document carefully who you handout books to (especially if you have an absent student).

Wednesday Schedule:  The schedule for the last day is pretty fluid. Please support your team leader as they work to ensure students have opportunities to sign yearbooks, say their goodbyes, and generally close out the year in a very positive way. Here is a general description of the day

  • 8:30-9 Advisory (review schedule for the day, get ready for the G8 promotion)
  • 9-9:45 Grade 8 Promotion (G6 and 7 will have their ice cream as a snack during this time)
  • 9:45-11:15 Slightly different plans for each grade level
    • G8 will start with cupcakes and hallway photos using social distancing dots
    • Yearbook signing for sports / clubs will happen in the gym. Students can chose to come or not come. I will finalize the schedule for this once I see when the G6 and 7 teams will be doing their farewells / hats for the students leaving SSIS.

Middle School Leadership Team Results:  Congratulations to the newest MS Leadership Team member.  Erin Johnson will be serving as the At Large representative.  This position represents all faculty members who are not on a grade level team. She will be a great addition to the leadership team.
