Early Dismissal Schedule:

New Dragon on MS Faculty/Staff:. We are pleased to announce that we have hired Mr. Hien Phan for the new MS PE TA position.  He will be joining Sanny, Kelley, Sean and Deb as a full time member of the PE department.

Attendance Reminder:  Please remember to use the following codes for attendance.  Duong is tracking all students to ensure that we have the most consistent attendance pattern possible.  This depends on your attendance coming in promptly at the start of the block.  We call all students who are unexpectedly virtual.

  • P – Physically present
  • V – Virtually present
  • A – Absent

At this time, we have 3 students who are eligible to come on campus who are going to remain virtual per their parents request.  Only 3.  That’s amazing.  We do have a few students who are floating through trying out the “I’m staying home today” route.  This is generally easy to sort out and get the student back into physical school.

For all future attendance reports, we will simply list students as sick or quarantined.  This is improve our handling of confidential health information.  Duong will continue to list the expected return date.  One thing that is still unclear is when students who are sick (and have to stay home until they have 2 symptom free days or who are impacted by a longer term illness but then just have to quarantine) and then are well enough to attend school.  Duong is doing her best to capture that when she communicates with parents.  However, all teachers need to check Zoom each block to ensure all students who are virtual, expected or not, are admitted.

DEAR: We are working on a resolution to some issues with the start of DEAR.  This is on the MS Leadership Team agenda this Tuesday.  Thank you for your patience – we will delay launching for G6 and 8 until after Tuesday’s meeting.

Friday Early Dismissal:  This week we have early dismissal on Friday.  We will use the afternoon for departments.  This will be time to discuss and plan courses and to meet with Molly regarding course allocations/assignments for 22-23.  The schedule for those meetings will come soon.

Posting to Schoology: Expectations for posting to Schoology and assignments through Schoology have not changed.  Please continue to follow those expectations (posting a daily learning plan, links, assignments all through Schoology, etc.) so that our virtual / remote students can still access the curriculum.  If you have questions about this, please work with Daniel.

Tech from Daniel:  Here is some great information from Daniel regarding

  • Google Journeys
  • upcoming gmail changes
  • Concurrent learning resources
  • Turning off overall grade visibility in Schoology courses
  • leveling up your knowledge of student tech chat lingo
GMail Layout Changes
GMail layout will be changing over the next few weeks.  As Google builds their Google Workspace platform you notice a new column bar on the left side of your screen that will have all the Google Tools you may use (Chat, Workspace, Meet, etc.). Here is a link to a more detailed article
Curated List of Concurrent Learning Resources
Cult of Pedagogy is a blog I have followed for over a decade.  They provide book reviews as well as discuss current topics and trends in education.  The blog has curated 40 resources from around the internet that will provide you with some useful examples and tools you could use in a concurrent learning environment.

(Task*) Turn Off visibility of Overall Grades

New semester and new Schoology course in the Middle School.  Please turn off the visibility of overall grades in Schoology.  Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do this:
  • Go to Gradebook Setup
  • Scroll down to Visibility Settings
  • Check the first two boxes: Hide overall grade and Hide grading period grades.
  • To quickly go to the next course you teach click on the notebook icon image.pngfound in the top right corner of the page.
