EE Supervisors Needed:  I did this for the first time this year, and it was a great experience!  It doesn’t take all that much time and there is lots of support for first time supervisors 🙂   HS is in the process of matching IBDP students with supervisors.  As a supervisor, you provide guidance and support; read the draft EE and provide feedback to the student; and basically be the Miyagi of research – help your advisee without directly telling them what to do.

Here is the spreadsheet with the proposed Extended Essay questions for the class of 2019.  The goal is to have each student have a couple of people to chose from – so even if a name is there, add yours too.  You can also let Lara know how many you are willing to work with (I only work with 1).

EcoSSIStem club Event Needs Help:  “Go Green Day will be held from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, Feb. 24. Here is the  Volunteer Sign Up form which includes the event schedule (there will be four separate sessions) and further information about each workshop. If you’re available and would like to help out, we would greatly appreciate it if you could sign up for at least two slots to which you’re able to commit.”

Author Visit, Feb. 28:  Award-winning Australian author Deb Abela will be visiting SSIS on Wednesday, February 28 and Friday, March 2! She will do a MS assembly on the 28th and is available to do writing workshops with classes during the rest of her visit; please let Lara know if you are interested.
Deb’s bio from Authors Abroad:
“Deborah trained as a teacher and completed a BA (Comm) before becoming writer/producer of a national children’s TV show at Network TEN. After 7 years she left to write over 20 novels for children, including the Max Remy Superspy and Jasper Zammit (Soccer Legend) series and New City, the sequel to her bestselling, GrimsdonTeresa A New Australian, was inspired by her dad, who, with a million other refugees, made the journey to Australia after the devastation of WW2 and The Stupendously Spectacular Spelling Bee came about because of her year 4 teacher Ms Gray and her love of words. Her latest book is her very first picture book called Wolfie, An Unlikely Hero. Deb’s won awards for her books, including an Outstanding International Book Award in the USA and the Maurice Saxby Award for services to Children’s Literature. She is an ambassador for Room to Read and Books In Homes.”
