Week Ahead: Jan. 27-31
|Celebrating two New Years is a definite benefit. For me, it’s a reminder that there is never a bad time to think about new intentions, new goals, and new habits. For me, one of the new habits I’m trying to build is connecting regularly with my family members … my parents, my sisters, my brother and friends that I consider “family” who don’t live here. This has been such a positive thing so far, and one I think “Why didn’t I do that sooner!” I know it’s old school, but all it took for me was to create a chart and actually mark when I did it. Yep, the ole’ star chart for good behavior. (Note to self – now that I think about it, this is a great way to connect my love of stickers to building a new habit … Kiet, here I come). What new habits to do you want to set for yourself? How can you support yourself in building them? For me, it’s been a small thing – both in habit and in method. What might it be for you?

New Development – Feb. 17 and 18: We are excited to host a guest speaker / organization on Feb. 17th. (*Note: this will be canceled if we are still minimizing large group gatherings per the Coronovirus protocols) We will have the Humane Society of Vietnam as guest speakers for the MS and HS on Feb. 17. They will be presenting on healthy eating options for both the body and the environment. This is being brought to us by our Food Committee (thank you Dawne Kaba and Maika Hughes for being MS representatives on this committee). This is a continuation of the Food Committee’s work in developing a greener cafeteria and food service. In support of this, we will run the Advisory schedule on both Feb. 17 and 18. This will enable us to have the presentation on Feb. 17th and not reduce advisory time by adding an advisory schedule on Feb. 18. This will mean a slight adjustment to the G8 registration schedule – and we will work to get that sorted.
Building Good Habits in the New Year – Attendance: Thank you for continuing to support the development of great attendance habits – particularly being on time each morning. Just a recap of Roxanne’s email regarding morning tardies:
Consequences for MS students start once they have 5 tardy mornings.
- *1 hour of same-day detention from 3-4 pm in MS Office
- *Miss team practices, team games, and ASAs occurring from 3-4PM on that day (students need to advise their coach/ASA sponsor)
Detention will be postponed by 1 day if student is participating in:
- *Dragon Math Tutoring
- *Wednesday Vietnamese class
- *Pre-Paid sporting events on that day (e.g. MRISA)
Support for G6 It’s All Greek to Me: from Emily Wolf and Ryan Butz emails:
Items like cardboard, cereal boxes, fabric, ribbons, paper bags, toilet paper rolls (minus the toilet paper!), and small containers have been very helpful in the past. There is a large tub in the Science Storage room, which we are keeping materials. Drop things off with Ryan B or any G6 Team member.
