Week Ahead: Mar. 21-25

Thank you all for another week of support for one another and our students.  Attendance trends continue to improve for both teachers and students.  Efforts to reduce coverage needs by classroom teachers last week were very successful.  I had the pleasure of visiting advisory classes and talking with students about their preparation for SLCs.  They have so many wonderful things to share with their parents – and that is all due to the deep and rich curriculum, instruction and assessment provided by you.  This week will certainly end with a celebration of their learning and of your efforts.

The photo I chose for the banner this week is of 2 MS students.  If I remember right one student is in G6 and the other G7.  The growth and development of these students is extraordinary – some ways we can see directly; others we see when things like SLCs happen.

Our conferences are from 1-4:00 onThursday and from 8-3:00 on Friday.  The early dismissal was added to support the time needed for conferences.  This is a change from previous years, and MS will not have conferences in the evening on either day.  The offset of hours between divisions is to support faculty parents in scheduling conferences for their own children as well as their students’ parents.

You may choose to host conferences from school or home on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday.  For those of you choosing to work on campus, we will have lunch provided both on Thursday and Friday.  We will send out order forms on Monday.

Did you know that you can create groups in your courses and differentiate assignments and materials? the Grading Groups feature enables educators to sort students into groups within a single course section. Let me know if you have any questions.

Google Docs Email Template Feature

Be on the lookout for this feature. Google makes it easy to collaborate on an email draft in Docs with the new email draft template. You can mention people in the recipient fields using the @ menu without remembering their email addresses and collaborate on the message body using comments and suggestions. When ready to send, click the button that is shown alongside an email draft. A  mail compose window will pop up, with email fields (subject, to, cc, bcc, and body) automatically populated based on the email draft in the document.

From the Nurses’ Office:

COVID-Recovered
  • Staff that test positive for COVID-19 are exempt from F1 home quarantine for 3 months following the date of COVID Recovery.
  • The SSIS Health Office reports staff cases to the local health authority and will assist staff to obtain the government-issued Certificate of COVID Recovery.
  • Upload the certificate to the SSIS App under TESTS icon and “Recovered F0”.
Symptoms and Testing
  • Rapid Antigen Testing (at home or medical clinic) will test NEGATIVE for up to 48 hours AFTER symptoms begin. PCR testing is more accurate in the early stages.
  • THEREFORE Make your decision to work from home based on symptoms, not test results.
  • Both Delta and Omicron variants are currently circulating in HCMC.
  • The most common symptoms include runny nose, headache, itchy throat, cough, fatigue, fever.
  • Recent COVID-recovered staff do not need to do weekly testing unless there is a symptom.
  • It is recommended that other staff test on Monday mornings as a precaution.
Masks
  • Make sure that your mask is 3 layers and fits snugly on your nose and chin.
  • Cloth masks are not as effective against the Omicron variant (because it is aerosol not droplet). Try double masking with no leakage.
  • N95, KF94, KN94 are more effective against the Omicron variant if it fits snugly.
