Save the Date: Sept. 9

To celebrate a very successful start to the year, we will be hosting a HaiDiLao Hot Pot Happy Hour for MS faculty and staff on Friday, Sept 9 at 4:30.  With the help of our staff and the amazing service at HaiDiLao, you will be a hot pot expert.  Or at the very least highly entertained by the noodle dance or by getting your nails painted at the restaurant’s nail service.  Be on the look out for signs ups – coming soon.

Haidilao Hotpot – “There are no afflictions that a hot pot meal cannot solve.”

Vaccination Clinics this Week:

There are two vaccination clinics this week for our students.  We have 10 students signed up for the Aug. 29 clinic; and 1 student for the Aug. 31 clinic.

22-23 Planning Calendar:

In an effort to help consolidate dates when we have events that could disrupt normal lesson planning, we have used a planning calendar.  22-23 MS Planning Calendar  (currently you have editing access to this doc, but please do not edit anything.  If you want to add or change something, please do it in a comment.)  This calendar does not include all things related to MS – it includes only things that could disrupt how you plan for your lessons.  By pulling it all into one place, we hope to help you when planning ahead.  Some examples include sports tournaments where students will be missing, times when certain students will be off timetable, and early dismissal PD days.  This is a work in progress, and events will be added as they come up.

Tech Tips from Daniel:

Please let Daniel know if you are working through Curriculum documentation and find items where the owner is Archive MS.  If the file owner is Archive, it means the file was previously owned by a teacher who has left our school.  Once a teacher leaves our school, we go through archiving their files in the Archive MS account.  It’s essential to report this process as soon as you can.

CK-12 is a resource integrated into Schoology that you could use to supplement your courses.  Take a look at some new interactive content your students could be working on.

You may want to consider several tech resources when planning for your units.  Please see Daniel about creating class projects with these resources.

Headphones: If a student needs a set of headphones, you can ask the student to go to the library and check out over-the-ear headphones.
iPad Carts: Two sets of carts with 25 iPads can be checked out from the MS library. Here is the list of apps that are currently on the iPad.
iPad Stand – these stands are perfect if you plan to record a lesson or demonstration. You can check out a stand. First come, first serve!
Microphones – teachers can sign out a set of 10 Yeti microphones so students can record their projects with a high-quality microphone.
Lego EV3 – Teachers can use the Lego Mindstorm units (12 in total)
Podcasting Equipment –  Coming in September, Students will be able to create a podcast in A314. You’ll need to learn how to use the equipment or coordinate with Daniel to ensure adequate supervision.
Greenscreen Room – Need a green screen to help with video projects? Please speak with Daniel and book A314 for your students to record their videos.
4K Video Camera and Tripod – Sometimes, you want to take your video recording to the next level. If you are having a grade level or department event worthy of recording and sharing with the parents or the world, please let Daniel know, and we can work to see how we can capture this event. We have one 4K Video Camera and tripod that you can borrow from Daniel’s office and access to two more cameras from different divisions if you need multiple recordings or angles.
