With over 220 students at the dance, it was a fun and fabulous time for all! Dress ranged from tux to t-shirts and represented the diversity of our wonderful student population. Huge thanks to Meghan Ricker, Phil Wendel, Thao Dinh, Duong Nguyen, and the Student Council for pulling off an epic experience. Additional thanks to our intrepid chaperone group, including a few last-minute saviors who supported the unexpectedly large attendance – Brian Benck, Gary Bertoia, Blaire Hart, Jake West, Andrew Ward, Ann Laros-Weaver, Rebecca Jardin, and Kevin Brodeur!
Click here for a 6-second glimpse of the wonder it was … music choices included T-Swift, Carley J, K-Pop, and they even got Rickrolled much to their delight!

CHECKING IN AFTER THE FIRST QUARTER:
Please complete this middle school faculty survey. We want to do a check on how the division is doing so far. It is anonymous and should only take a few minutes. Thank you for giving feedback!
UPDATED DUTY SCHEDULE:
Thank you all for flexibility as we looked to find more support for the gym. We have made some shifts by closing down after school pavilion duty. The schedule is documented correctly on our Master Schedule. We will get new charts posted in duty locations ASAP. It takes us all to create a safe environment for our students. If you see something that needs adjust to improve safety and the overall experience, please bring it to Phil or Molly’s attention. Working together we can keep improving!
ATHLETICS/ASAs from DR. LONG:
Many of you have mentioned that you don’t always know what our students are involved in here on campus (and beyond), and would love to have access to event information so that you can show up and support our kids!
While there are several places this information does exist, I trust you won’t find it redundant if I also add an email every week or two with upcoming events and links to teams.
Your support for our students in all their activities is super-appreciated. Thank you!!

“I don’t like getting emails; where else can I find this information?”
Schoolsbuddy Accounts: All teachers have access to Schoolsbuddy and can receive notifications on events as well as team information
“How do I know which students are on which team/activity?”
Roster List: I’m working on a cleaner format, but in the meantime here is a link to the roster spreadsheet for each team/activity above. There is a tab for athletics and a tab for activities (and a tab for the master data list if you’re really interested
).

SchoolsBuddy Language Support
SchoolsBuddy now has Korean, Mandarin, and Vietnamese Language support.
Organizing Your Tabs in Chrome
To help you manage and organize your tabs, please look at the following chrome extensions to help you (and students) get organized, stay focused and eliminate distractions. Both of the extensions below help you group tabs that you routinely use, and with one click, you can open all of them at once.
Toby Mini – Our resident Toby Mini expert, Rebecca Jardin, has made this part of her organizational routine.
Promo Video. Toby is a visual workspace that lives on every new tab. Add new tabs by dragging and dropping your browser tabs into collections or save a whole session in just one click. Access all of your collections on any desktop with automatic sync. Use tags to organize your collections or create notes for your to-dos.
20 Tabs – I (Daniel) use this simple extension. Take Control of your Tabs is the every – day assistant for working with browser tabs. Press the hotkey combination to open a search bar with a list of opened tabs. The search bar appears as well to simplify navigation between websites you visit.
StudyMate from Respondus
The creators of Lockdown Browser have another app called
Study Mate. It integrates with Schoology to take your content and make them into easy-to-use flashcards and simple activities for your students to learn terminology, concepts, and more.
AUTHOR VISIT (repeat post):
The upcoming author visit is very exciting. Please note the following blocks that we will be holding full grade level assemblies (in the library): 2nd block – Grade 6; 3rd block – Grade 7; 4th block – Grade 8
OFFICE of TEACHING and LEARNING, from DAVID CHADWELL:
BACKGROUND: During our inservice week, we processed the SSIS Profile of a Learner (see attached.). With the start of school, not much has happened with it since then. It is time to review the input received already and recommend ways in which the Profile of a Learner can support our community.
PRINCIPLES OF TL: Specifically, one additional foundational document that needs to be developed is the Principles of Teaching and Learning. This document essentially provides our beliefs about the best and most appropriate ways to teach and learn in order to cultivate the traits listed on the Profile of a Learner (and in line with the Mission and Core Values.). See an example below from another school.
REQUEST: I would like to gather several faculty and staff who have an interest in contributing to the development of teaching and learning documents. As with documents, incorporating faculty and staff ideas, perspective and expertise is critical. Eventually, a draft will go to faculty and staff for feedback. The final draft will be submitted to ALT and the Board for adoption.
TIME: There will be a couple meetings (scheduled as available based on schedule or as release time for substantial collaborative time) as well as individual research time.
REPLY: Please reply to this email and let me know of your interest and availability or any questions or suggestions.
Have a great day. – David
Repeat Post: Week of Nov. 14-18:
You may have noticed that the week of Nov. 14-18 is filled with A LOT of things. Jan Chappuis is here to work with all of us in large and small groups on SBTL; the PTA is hosting a Teacher Appreciation lunch; we have an author visit; and we are hosting our first MRISA tournaments in 3 years. We will also be doing our final prep for the following week’s WWW trips. It will be a very exciting week (and an exciting “next” week too). We will definitely NOT add anything else to the mix for this week. [Please also know that there were no other scheduling options for these events; only week Jan was available; VN Teacher Appreciation day is a national event; the author just happened to be here in VN this week enabling us to have him visit at very low cost; MRISA was scheduled a year ago; and WWW was scheduled to fall after MRISA]
