Week Ahead: Nov. 7 – 11
|I want to thank the entire MS for supporting the group who attended Adaptive Schools training this past week. Having that many people out is a challenge for all those who are working to cover, support subs, and generally support students who are impacted by the changes. It was a very productive learning experience and an important part of supporting our continued capacity building and development of collective efficacy in the middle school and SSIS as a whole. I also want to thank the MS participants, Julianne Athon, Cintia Bastos, Bryce Boudreau, Greg Jardin, Daniel Mendes, Meghan Ricker, and Jake West. They were insightful and reflective as they engaged with an intense 4 day training.

This Week’s Evacuation Drill:
Please note that we have an evacuation drill scheduled on Wednesday at 8:30. For this drill, we are announcing to teachers, but NOT letting students know. This is a way we can continue to build our skill at following our emergency procedures. As we go through this drill, our goals remain:
- Silent, single file lines as we exit
- Silent, efficient regrouping into advisories once on the field
- Silent, single file lines on the field while awaiting further directions
Please use your primary exit for this evacuation drill. Also, when returning to classes, do not use the atrium for reentry, even if that is your primary exit. We will leave that for G5. We can use the entrance by the elevator, the cafeteria, and both sets of stairs to the gym.
Continued Prep for WWW:
As we go through the next two weeks, we will continue to focus on WWW preparations. There are lessons in advisory to help prepare students, and you will be engaged in conversations about your role as advisors during your team meetings. We want to make sure all your questions are answered and that we all feel prepared to support our students.
In preparation for those meetings, please review the SSIS MS Chaperone Guidelines and screencast review that I prepared. This will give an overview of procedures and practices that we use at SSIS.

REPEAT POST: WEEK OF NOV. 14-18:
You may have noticed that the week of Nov. 14-18 is filled with A LOT of things. Jan Chappuis is here to work with all of us in large and small groups on SBTL; the PTA is hosting a Teacher Appreciation lunch; we have an author visit; and we are hosting our first MRISA tournaments in 3 years. We will also be doing our final prep for the following week’s WWW trips. It will be a very exciting week (and an exciting “next” week too). We will definitely NOT add anything else to the mix for this week. [Please also know that there were no other scheduling options for these events; only week Jan was available; VN Teacher Appreciation day is a national event; the author just happened to be here in VN this week enabling us to have him visit at very low cost; MRISA was scheduled a year ago; and WWW was scheduled to fall after MRISA]
