Week Update: April 6
|A picture is worth a 1000 words … and a heaping dose of emotion. I loved looking through the photos captured from SLCs. The smiles, concentration, and intent engagement in those images seem to have captured the essence of the experience for most. Thank you so much for all your hard work in getting kids ready, helping facilitate the conversations, and working to continue to improve the experience for all. (Love the feature photo for this post … because who wouldn’t come without a mustache on a stick when support your sister at SLCs?)
We have checked off quite a few things in the big events category … made it through March Madness. Now we are 3 weeks away from Spring Break; then just 6 more weeks to the last day of school. Don’t blink … it is going to pass very quickly 🙂

Evaluations for 14-15
Per our new evaluation policy, I’ll be writing evaluations for all MS faculty members during April and May. My goal is to complete 3-4 a week. I’ll be working to schedule those meetings with each of you as I go along. I will be doing additional observations in preparation for the meetings. For those of you that selected areas of focus, I’ll be focused on those aspects as we discussed. For those that did not already select areas of focus, please let me know if you’d like me to observe for anything in specific (ex. time on task, engagement levels, questioning strategies utilized, or anything you are currently wondering about). Because of rotating schedules combined with my schedule, my plan is to work with unannounced visits … however, if you have something you particularly want observed, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do to make sure it fits. Please remember that this system isn’t a “gotcha” system. It’s designed to talk about great teaching and learning, and a way to focus on how we can all continually grow and develop as educators. I’m looking forward to the process!
HS MRISA Report
Just an update … we did have an injury during the HS MRISA Soccer tournament. Keiji Orime suffered a fracture to his left fibula during the finals (last 5 minutes of the game). The initial diagnosis is an easy recovery with a cast for 4-6 weeks. Many of you had Keiji last year … I figured you’d appreciate the update. He was a total trooper during the ordeal.
WrAP and MAP Schedules
WrAP is April 14 and 15. Tina is working out a schedule that would allow us to meet with all classes for 70 minutes that day (we give up DEAR and shorten all classes). I’ll have the final details ASAP.
MAP (May 5-8)= is not working out as easy. The issue is the number of laptops available for testing this time (old age has killed off many of the “extra” laptops we used to have). We are trying to work out a schedule that would minimize missed classes … but unfortunately we are most likely not going to be able to run a shortened schedule and will end up missing some blocks. Again, I’ll get that out ASAP.
Cool Instructional / Assessment Tip of the Week
Have you always wanted to present at a conference? Here is a great opportunity to think about: Applications to deliver presentations at the 21C February 2016 Conference are now being accepted. This is a great opportunity to showcase the work you have been doing in your classroom or school to your peers.
