Dragon Run Information
Gregor and Lisa are very excited about this culminating PE event. Please read carefully through their explanations / directions. With all of our help, this will be a fantastic “first annual” event!
Dragon Run Rules (Notes for Advisory Teachers)
Your advisees must wear their house color for this event!
- Number your advisory students and paint their number on their face (1-11). Do this very quickly before heading out to the field. Ms. Sang should have face paint for you.
- Give each student their house colour bracelet.
- Be on the field by 2:25.
Find your home base. - The house league sign will be posted where you need to be.
- There will be a tent for your HOUSE with a pail of water/ice and sponges.
Grade 6 will start first.
SET-UP your runners: The number 1 runner is at home base and numbers 4, 7, and 10 will wait for their turn at homebase but inside the circle. The number 2 runner will be at the next cone (the homebase of the team counterclockwise to you) and 5, 8, and 11 will wait inside the circle at their homebase. The number 3 runner will be at the third cone (the homebase of the third advisory team) and 6 and 9 will wait there.
NOTE: There will be at least 9 students at each homebase (3 students per 3 houses). Only the runners should be on the track and the runners who are next in line should wait INSIDE the circle but near the homebase.
The number 1 runner from each house will be given one clipboard and one ping pong ball.
MUSIC BEGINS: When the music starts they must try to run while balancing the ping pong ball on the clipboard in a counterclockwise fashion to their number two runner who is waiting at another team’s home base. If they drop the ping pong ball, they must stop and pick it up and continue. They cannot hold the ping pong in their hand.
Number 1 will pass the clipboard and ping pong to number 2 and then number 1 will wait inside the circle and in line behind the other runners at the base they ran to. Number 2 runs/walks/balances the ping pong and passes to number 3. Number 3 passes to number 4.
When your team passes your HOMEBASE mark your scorecard. You need to keep track of home many times your team passes your homebase.
SPECTATORS: Their job is to throw watery, icy sponges at the runners. They must stay outside the 40 meter circle line and within their house area. They can only collect their sponges when no runners are on their part of the track.
MUSIC ENDS: Send one student to report your score to Mrs. Bertoia at the big whiteboard by the walkway near the speakers and she will record your score.
- Grade 7 set up your Runners and repeat the steps above.
- Grade 8 set up your Runners and repeat the steps above.
