Week Ahead: November 2

Another great week in the Middle School!  This week I was asked by a candidate what teachers like about teaching at SSIS.  It made me think of a series of comments I’ve heard several times in the past week or so … the theme:  “This is an amazing group of teachers; they are professional, dedicated, and really working hard to create an amazing experience for our students.  Being in this group is really helping me to be a better teacher.”  We truly do have an exceptional faculty.  I’m proud to be your colleague!

PD-Discourse: Abena Bailey suggested an idea after the TTT that I would like to move forward.  The idea was to create a space that allows teachers to continue discussions after training sessions or a place for professional dialogue within SSIS.  There are many external forums for these types of conversations, but this would be just for internal dialogue.  This will be a space dedicated solely to matters of pedagogy and practice.  This happens from time to time on the info-exchange, but gets swallowed up by shopping, travel and helpful hints.  So, similar to info-exchange, PD-Discourse, will be an email conversation that all faculty and staff will be automatically subscribed to. Just email the conversation starter to pd-discorse@ssis.edu.vn  Please engage at any level you wish.

Relocated Couch and Chair:  Don’t worry!  They will come back.  They are just taking a brief detour to the Black Box theater for a staring role in the upcoming HS production.  Be sure to put the Friday date (Nov. 13) on your calendar.  I know we’ll be tired from WWW, but these productions are always worth it!

Welcome Student Teacher:  Welcome to Shea Fullwood who is doing her student teaching experience with Zach Post.  She will be volunteering on Fridays for S1, and here more regularly in S2.  She is working through the University of W Florida.

Dragon’s Honor:  This is an initiative to help instill our core values and build community, students and staff recognize individuals that demonstrate core values by completing a google form.  Here is a short explanation you can go over with your Advisory group:

• Go to the Advisory Moodle page and click on the link to “Dragon’s Honor Form and complete the form.
• Students that are recognized will receive a certificate and be acknowledged on the Dragon’s Honor photo/core value board (by the Dragon painting in the stairwell by gym) and at assemblies.
