Wellness Program – Integrating and Embedding – Podcast
|We have been fortunate to experience professional learning opportunities on the topic of wellness via the Institute of Positive Education, offerings from our Well Team and this blog. Virtual school brought home the value of the learning and living it phases of bringing positive psychology into our lives. Now as we look to the phases of teaching and embedding wellness into our classrooms and curricula, it is validating to hear of other educators who are following the same pathway.
Many of you might be familiar with the work of Jennifer Gonzalez and her Cult of Pedagogy website, blog and podcast. She has been a leader and innovator in education for many years now. She recently recorded a podcast interview with Wendy Turner, a second grade teacher, who is following the wellness integrative and embedding model that the elementary school Well Team is planning for the coming school year.
Wendy describes her effort as not depending on a wellness/SEL curriculum binder as she models wellness practices while finding natural social and emotional learning connections in her regular curriculum. Wendy’s students learn about wellness as a natural part of their classroom culture. She uses activities that build student understanding of terms and practices much like we have in our Wellness@ES website.
So look to take a listen to the podcast and read the accompanying blog post.
