Staff Action Needed
- Course syllabus uploaded to Moodle by August 24.
- Advisor email to parents inviting them to Curriculum Night.  We are trying to increase our parent participation in this event, so send an email to the parents of your advisory students by Friday, August 28.  Here is an example for you to copy and paste, edit or to create your own.
- RSVP to the HS Bunko Party here by Thursday, August 27. Â More information below.
Back to School Bunko– We will be hosting a HS team building activity on Friday, August 28th from 3:15-4:15. Â This is a fun dice game where you will interact with everyone on the staff. Â There is no strategy, except to have fun. Â We need to make table groups of 4 people, so we need you to RSVP by Thursday, August 27. Â If you have a spouse or significant other that works at the school they are welcome to attend if we have space (my wife would be mad if I did not include her on this). Â Yes, there will be snacks and refreshments. Â Your kids are welcome to watch, but not play. Â If the anticipation is killing you, you can watch this short youtube clip describing how this game works.
Club Expo– See advisory lesson in the Counselor’s Corner for important information.
Leadership Team Notes (August 17)–  The Leadership Team now meets every two weeks instead of weekly.  This week’s notes can be found here and focused on the upcoming HS faculty meeting (August 19), a review of our orientation schedule, and a discussion about the best way to address faculty conversations about our students of concern.
Staff Wearing ID’s– Â All staff should wear their lanyard with ID at all times while at SSIS.
Curriculum Night (aka Back to School Night)– This will hopefully be the biggest night of the year for parent attendance. Â Please dress to impress and make sure to cover Moodle, PowerSchool, and your syllabus in the short 10 minutes that you have with parents. Â Here is the schedule for the night.
High School Photos– Students will be having their pictures taken for yearbook and purchase during study hall time next week. Â This should have no impact on instruction, but thought you might want to know. Â Pictures will be Tuesday and Wednesday during study hall and makeups on Thursday during study hall for any that missed their scheduled time. Â The pictures will be taken in the PTA room next to the HS Nurse’s station. Â Staff, you will also be taking pictures for the yearbook during your prep period on the same days.
MAP Testing–  Starting the week of August 31, grade 9 students will participate in an external standardized assessment called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). This assessment comes from the US educational organization, Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). The MAP tests allow us to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading, language arts, and mathematics.  More info on the schedule which will impact instructional time will be shared as soon as it is finalized.
