Jacob’s Journal: August 14

What an amazing couple of weeks we have had at the high school.  In this section, I usually write about something I experienced during the week and its implications in our work together.  There was a lot to choose from, but one theme continued to resonate with me over the past few days: collaboration.  I witnessed this during our in-service days leading up to the arrival of our students on orientation day.

I am impressed with how you have collectively rolled up your sleeves and dug into the work.  From setting divisional norms to creating action plans for our division’s improvement, we have begun to find solutions to problems in an authentic, honest, and realistic manner together.  This foundational work would not have occurred without a collaborative approach.  Fast forward to our orientation day. You modelled this approach with our students as they completed a number of tasks that required them to work together productively.  I witnessed a number of student groups struggle to accomplish their tasks and sought insight from those they respect the most, their teachers.  I am excited to see where this collaborative energy takes us this year.

I am both humbled and blessed.

Have a great weekend,

Jacob
