Have a Balanced Holiday!
|I know all of us are looking forward greatly to the holiday. Rest and downtime are much needed. Some of us are off on adventures around the world, while others of us are having staycations here in HCMC. In all instances throughout the holiday, I hope we have a balanced holiday with our technology.
In this context, “balanced” can be defined as using digital devices wisely while understanding and valuing the importance of learning and developing relationships in both digital and face-to-face environments. This is a key theme in developing digital citizenship in our, our children’s, and our students’ lives.
I’m sure with most of us adults, this won’t be an issue over the holiday, but it is something we have to promote and monitor with our kids and recommend to our students before they leave on Friday. That balance doesn’t necessarily need to be a 50/50 split. It can vary from person-to-person, depending on where they are, what they are doing, and the particular use of technology happening. Each person will need to decide what their balance is. A key thing is to be a role model to our kids in developing this balance. And, as the video below argues, be there and be in the moment during the holiday.
Have an awesome holiday and see you in 2017!
