Class of 2017 and 18
|Grade 12: Â They have until May 1 to make their final decision for any North American universities and another week for the UK. Â They are now processing visa applications at various embassies.
Grade 11: We have been meeting all grade 11 students for their official second university check-in meeting. We sent a letter home to families informing them of what is to come:
A few items we wanted to share with you:
- All students should now be registered for the SAT/SAT subject/ACT/TOEFL and/or IELTS – please ask your student to do this asap if they haven’t already
- We strongly suggest SAT subject exams if applying to the US and for non full IB students looking at the UK. We believe that when a university states “encouraged” this is required for SSIS students.
- Each student has a “big” list of universities in Naviance – anywhere between 15 to 40 by June 8. They should research over the summer months.
- In our upcoming advisory sessions we will refine each student’s cv and work on rough drafts of essays and personal statements.
- Students have until May 15 to get the blue forms (if wanted) to teachers.
Opportunities:
- University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University and Vanderbilt University will be at SSIS on Monday, May 15 at 8:30 a.m in the HS MPR.
- Thursday, May 18th 8:15 a.m to 9:45 a.m. – Unitalk: Class of 2017 – University Snapshot and Grade 12 Parent Panel
- We will host an Essay/Personal Statement Bootcamp on Saturday, June 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and serve pizza afterwards. There is no ideal time, but this is after AP, IB and school exams. It is also after the SAT Subject exam date of June 3.
- We will host another Essay/Personal Statement Bootcamp on Saturday, August 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. unless the SAT announces that the SAT is that day (we do not know as of yet).
