Weekly Update: November 27

You will notice some distinct changes to the Dragon’s Lair this week.  Our team is committed to providing you with information that is both streamlined and usable.  We have eliminate additional tabs (which are extra clicks for you) and consolidated Jacob’s Journal into the opening to the weekly update.  Additionally, many asked to have a single calendar instead of two different ones in the “Weekly Update” and “Counselor’s Corner”.  We have also moved the “Kudos” section this week.  You will now see it as a static widget on the right side of your screen.  Lastly, the “Staff Action Needed” section has also been moved before the upcoming dates in an effort to highlight their importance.  Lots of changes made from your thoughtful feedback.

Important End of Term DatesHere is the pertinent information for the end of the semester in regards to grading.  Please read and review carefully.  It is essential that everyone does their part to meet deadlines, so that grades and comments go out to students at the start of winter break.

Student Organizations– I am extremely impressed with the leadership of our students at SSIS.  These students are ambitious and are philanthropists at heart.  I spend a lot of time during the week with kids heading different ASA’s or organizations, as they pitch a variety of ideas for our school.  The challenge is that I do not know if their advisor truly knows what they are doing.  There have been a number of occasions where the advisor of the club had no idea what students were planning.  In the end, this process is not very efficient and at time frustrating to the students, advisor and me.  Starting this next week, I will only schedule appointments with student leaders if their advisor is also present.  This way we streamline our work and ensure that we are working together.

Assistant Principal Position– Thank you all for joining me in the MPR on Tuesday morning before school.  I am very excited about what this position will add to the high school.  The job will be posted to the school website and Search Associates in the next day or two.  If you are interested in being a part of the interview team please complete this form.  Your voice in choosing this position is extremely important.

Free Staff Bowling– The Sunshine Committee has organized a bowling trip Thursday, December 3 starting at 5pm at the Vivocity Bowling Alley.  You can sign up here.  Lane rentals, and shoes will covered by the high school.  All you need to do is show up, pick a ball, and buy a beverage.
