Become an Apple Teacher!
|Apple recently launched a new program called Apple Teacher. This Apple Teacher program allows you to learn about and become proficient users with the various Apple applications that are on our Macs. You also learn about Mac OS, productivity, and creativity processes, as well. Best of all, it is free to do! Yes. Free and highly useful PD that will benefit you, your students, and your career! Teachers of all tech skill levels are encouraged to do this program.
This Apple Teacher program is NOT the same as the Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) program. The ADE program requires an application, a bit more tech integration experience, and evidence of effective use of Apple apps and products in a teaching/learning environment. ADE is only offered once a year or every other year, and you might not be accepted. ADE is a more challenging program of which to become a part.
Apple Teacher is for everyone and is available to complete anytime. There are eight modules you need to complete to gain Apple Teacher recognition. You can do these modules at your own pace. There is no time limit in which you need to complete a module once you start. There is no time limit to finish all eight modules.
- Register and sign in at https://appleteacher.apple.com (note: you will need a US-based Apple ID to register at this point)
- Choose either the iPad or the Mac path (you only have to do 1 path to get Apple Teacher recognition). You will likely want to do the Mac path since your main device here at SSIS is a Mac.
- There are 8 modules you need to complete. Choose one of the modules to start (you don’t need to go in a specific order).
- Download and read the iBook for that module.
- Once you feel ready, do the quiz for the module. There are 5 questions for each module. They are not very difficult. There is no time limit during the quiz, and you can reference the iBook or the app itself if needed. You need to get 4 out 5 correct to “pass” the quiz. If you get less than 4 correct, you can immediately do another quiz if desired. Once you pass, you get a badge for that module.
- Continue this process for the remaining 7 modules. The green check mark means the module is complete.
- Once you complete all 8 modules, you will be notified that you are an “Apple Teacher” and will receive an email with your recognition and badge you can share.
