ICT End of Year
|This week’s post is just reiterating David’s email from May 16 about the necessary tasks related to getting your tech ready for the end of the year. Please come see me if you have any questions about any of these processes.
Desktop Classroom Computers
Over the summer, computers will be shifted as we amortize old equipment and rearrange computers to take the best advantage of the equipment.
Please make sure that you have saved important files stored on the local computer to removable media (Flash drive/Google Drive) as all computers will be re-imaged, which will delete all files from the computer. Software installed on the computers will also be removed. If you have bookmarks/favorites and wish to keep them, see the instructions on the SSIS Link – on how to Save Favorites
Laptop Computers
If you are not using your assigned laptop over the summer please return it to the ICT office for safe keeping. Do not store the laptop in your classroom over the summer.
Please note:Â you are personally responsible for any loss or damage to school equipment.
Remotes and Other Checked Out Hardware
All of your projector, Apple TV, and speaker remotes need to be returned to the HS Library. Dongles and any other checked out equipment (document cameras, iPads, chargers, etc.) need to be returned, as well. Please do not wait until the last day to return these items
Moodle
The new Moodle 2017-18 server will be ready for use Wednesday, June 1st. We advise you to backup (zip) your courses in the Moodle 2016-2017 before you leave for summer. Please see directions on the SSIS Link – Moodle Backup and Restore
Google Drive
It is good practice to backup your Google Drive. See the SSIS Link – Google Takeout
Leaving teachers please transfer ownership of any shared department/grade level documents to the division level archive account.
High School
Your division level ICT (Instructional Coach for Technology) will check in with you towards the end of May and beginning of June. If you need assistance, please see let him know at this time.
Email
SSIS will use Google email as the official channel of communication. Please check your email regularly over the summer.
Faculty or staff leaving – your email account will remain active until the end of August. This should give you sufficient time to acquire a new account at your next school or new home.
Backup
It is always a good practice to backup all your files to removable media (flash drive/Google Drive) for the summer. Alternatively, doing a Time Machine backup is a great way to back up your entire laptop, including all apps, system preferences, data, media, etc. If your computer were to ever crash or get lost/stolen, having a Time Machine backup is the only way to get your entire laptop image back onto a new machine.
*You are responsible for personal files and your grade level/department files.
If you need assistance, please ask. We are happy to help. However, kindly remember that the last week of school is very busy for all of us, and we may not be available to assist you at that time. Please plan ahead.
