Using Facebook to Support IB Practice

As IB teachers, we rely on many outside sources to support our pedagogy and understanding of IB processes for our IB courses. Those might include IB workshop materials, the OCC, colleagues, and our awesome IB coordinator.

The world of social media offers a great opportunity to expand our personal learning network to IB educators and examiners around the world. Through interactions with those beyond our usual means, our approaches to our courses can improve.

Facebook has a group or a page for most IB subjects. Great questions get posed and answered and quality resources are shared in the space. I know I’ve benefited greatly from being a member of the IB Psychology Facebook group over the years. In the group, I’ve learned more about the intricacies of how examiners assess IB exams and IAs. I’ve had different course learning outcomes clarified in regards to content and thinking expectations. I’ve gathered more resources that help me and the students deepen our understanding of the course content. I’ve participated in debates about assessment criterion, that in the end made everyone in the group more knowledgeable about how to help our students understand the criterion. And, all of this was for free!

If you have a Facebook account, all you need to do is like the page or ask to the join the group, and you will then start to see posts pop up in your newsfeed everytime someone shares something. You can contribute your expertise, also!

Here are the Facebook groups I was able to find for IB courses:

Hopefully, you will find your respective group useful! Let me know if you need any assistance joining a group or liking the page.
