Weekly Update: February 20-24

New ideas start with taking risks.  Last week, Thao and Ian were married (pictures below).  This new beginning for them started with a kernel of an idea about a year before and required Thao to take some risks leaving her home and family.  This week we have the opportunity to explore some new ideas during our PD session on Friday.  It will be a time for us to think outside of the box and explore progressive ideas that might spark some new ideas in the high school.  Moreover, it is a chance for us to take some risks together in the coming weeks and months for the benefit of our students.

Congratulations Thao and Ian!

Have a great weekend,

Jacob

HS Faculty Meeting– Our faculty meeting this week is devoted to the sharing of our assessment guideline proposals.  Each group will have about 3-5 minutes to share their proposal(s) with the entire HS faculty.  Staff will have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions and provide feedback.  No decisions will be made at this meeting.  Staff feedback will be gathered and the HSLT will use this data to guide the next steps forward to determine if the proposals become part of the 2017-18 HS Assessment Guidelines.

Copyright Info– Just a reminder that we do NOT allow the photocopying or creating PDF’s of large chunks or entire texts.  The only time we are authorized to do this is when we have purchased the same copies and are waiting for them to be shipped to the school.

Special Thanks to our IB Higher Level Year 2 Teachers– In an attempt to garner more instructional time for our current grade 12 HL students before the exams in May, our teachers have agreed to provide 6 hours of additional instruction in the evenings and on weekends over the next two months for our senior.  Thomas Redfern, Tim and I want to thank these teachers for taking on this challenge at the end of the year with limited noticed.  Moreover, our students and parents appreciate this additional sacrifice.
