Weekly Update: February 5-9
|Whew! Who would have thought that we needed a Tet break right after a 3 week winter vacation. There are a ton of amazing things happening in our school and division these last weeks. Project X has been an amazing experience for our ES/MS students. Thank you for taking the time the last two weeks to see what we will join in the 2018-19 school year. From theater and music productions to the start of our course registration process for 2018-19 school year, Tripod reflections, grade 12 lock-in and more it has been busy. One week to go. Hang on for Tet break.
Have a great weekend,
Jacob

Tet Break
On the Horizon
- PSAT 9 on Wednesday, March 7 (More info to come later)
Staff Action Needed
- Bring Tet money in for cleaners and maintenance staff. 500,000 VND to the HS office, Regi, Evan or William.
- Review Bell Schedules for Feb 8 and 9 for Tet Potluck and Dragon Dance
- Review faculty meeting feedback. Here are the notes you wrote on the posters at this week’s faculty meeting discussions. Additionally, the HSLT will also be looking at these in more depth.
- What’s in your grade book? We are 4 weeks into the quarter, so all teachers should have at least 2 grade book entries in each course.
- Semester Two Exams. Please identify on this document which of your courses do you want to write a Semester Two exam in the gymnasium.  YES mean you want the students to write an exam in the Gymnasium.  NO means that you are not requesting students to write an exam in the Gymnasium. To clarify all courses need to have some sort of culminating exam, project, presentation, etc. These grades will be entered in Exam column of PowerSchool for 20% of the semester two grade.  Semester Two Exams in Gymnasium Request
Tet Money– This is that time of year where we collect money for those staff members that support our work in the classroom. Our maintenance, gardening and cleaning staff do su much to ensure the learning environment in our division is successful. Please contribute a recommended 500,000 VND to one of the Sunshine Committee members (William, Evan, Regi, Sean, HS Office) by next Wednesday, February 7. During 1st break on Friday, February 9 we will present the Tet envelopes to the staff.
HS Faculty Meeting (Feb 7)– At our next faculty meeting this week will do a short PD on comment writing in preparation for the quarter 3 reports. We collected data from both students and parents in relation to their use of comments. We will share expectations and do a gallery walk of comments, so our parent community receives more consistent feedback. Then we will turn our attention to grade 9/10 AP/DP skills. We will bring some closure to our work so far this year and set goals for next year.
Dragon Dance on February 9– Tet is almost here and the dragon dance on Friday, February 9 will officially kick off our Tet break. At the end of the last class of the day (B block), walk with your students at 1:40pm with their backpacks to the field between the HS and ES/MS buildings.
Good Luck Dragons– Good luck to our HS Robotics Club who will be competing outside of Vietnam for the first time. Evan Weinberg will take two teams with chaperone Roxanne Ross (thanks!!!) to the Battle in Bangkok where they will participate in a Vex Robotics Competition. Alison and Dan are supporting the HS BB teams in Cambodia for the MRISA tournament. Good luck.
