Weekly Update: March 22 – April 12

Happy First Day of Spring!

Please try to stay on schedule today and tomorrow for Parent Teacher Conferences.  Our new booking system will only work if parents can arrive on-time and leave on-time.  Please contact Jacob or I if we can be of any assistance.

Please mark on your calendars the times that you are helping out with Project X next week.

Safe journeys if you are travelling anywhere during the Spring break.

StuCo Election Extended Advisory on Thursday, April 11

This Thursday, we have an extended advisory time to enable our students the ability to give speeches for StuCo Executive level positions. The assembly should take 45 min to an hour. See bell schedule below. If we end a little early, lunch will be extended by a few minutes. Grades 9-11 students will meet in the HS gym to hear the speeches. Our grade 8 students will also be joining us for the speeches and will be included in the voting of leaders for next year. For those of you that are new, we moved our StuCo elections from May to April during my first year here. It may seem early, but it is perfect timing for our school. The timing affords our new student leaders time to plan and execute end of the year activities and get a great start for the 2019-20 school year, while our seniors focus on AP/IB exams and graduation.

Please let Jacob or Erica know if you have any questions.

Parent-Teacher Conferences Update– PTC’s are almost upon us.  Here are some key updates below.
  • Thai food dinner will be available starting at 3pm on Thursday afternoon in the HS Faculty room
  • A sandwich bar will be available during your assigned departmental lunch on Friday
  • If you have any issues with confrontational parents please call the office, Tim or Jacob and we will come to support you in the classroom
Parent-Teacher Conferences School Bookings Website Directions for Teachers– Go to www.schoolbookings.net. Click the “Admin login” button at the top right corner. In the next window, enter the username “ssishs” and the password “ssisteacher“. Everyone uses the same username and password. Find and click your name in the alphabetical list of teachers that appears after login. You will see your bookings in the next window. These live update as soon as a new booking is made. There is an option to print your appointments scheduled at the top if you wish. If you accept any walk-in bookings during a free 10-minute block, please click and do the “Book for a parent” option above your schedule. Please check the room in which you will do your conferences, as well, especially if you share rooms with others. Signs will be printed and placed on doors for parent reference. If you have any questions about the booking system, please see Thomas Galvez.

Special Parent Invitations to PTC’s– Below are the directions to send these on Friday, March 1.

  • Pick a total of at least 5 students from ALL of your classes that are struggling academically and send them an email on Friday, March 1 personally inviting them to book time with you for conferences.
    • Here is the link to the email for you to copy and paste.
    • You can get parent email addresses and languages from PowerSchool.  Please copy and paste the English portion,  as the first portion of the email then copy the secondary language afterwards.  i.e English first then Vietnamese second for a Vietnamese speaking parent.
    • For each email, make sure to input the parent’s name, name of the course and your name in the appropriate sections of the email in BOTH English and secondary language.
