University Guidance Office Director– As the school announced last year, one part of the Strategic Plan is the appointment of an administrative level Director of University Guidance.  Mr. Terry Giffen, who some of you met last spring when he visited campus, has led the first phase of our search which has resulted in the identification of three, highly qualified semi-finalists.  I am putting together a small committee from the high school to interview these three candidates and provide the Head of School with feedback. The interviews are to be scheduled in the next few days, and be completed by the end of next week.

The commitment  on your part would be: participation in a meeting to draft common questions for all three semi-finalists, three Skype interview sessions of 1 1.5 hours in length followed by a debrief with the committee.
From the three semi-finalists, we anticipate inviting at least two to visit campus in before Winter Break. More of you will be asked to participate in that visit as well.  Email Jacob if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Staff Video– We are looking for a new song for our staff video.  If you have one please share it with me or your department head.  Special thank you to Dan and Jeff Nesmith for the work they had already put into this.  I acknowledge that this is a significant setback for them and other staff that has started preparing for this.

Academic Probation Accountability– The counseling team has spent countless hours devoted to our students on academic probation (1 F or 2 D’s).  This includes parent meetings, student check-ins and more.  We require students on academic probation to attend 3 days of office hours with teachers in an effort to improve their grade.  Students can also meet with teachers at lunch (if teacher is available) for a 30 minute session instead of after school.  The issue has been accountability, since we have not been able to determine if they attend or not.  Starting on Monday, November 16 this problem will be solved with your assistance.  We approached the HSLT with this issue and have the best solution possible at this point.  Starting Monday, take attendance of those students on academic probation using this document.  All you need to do is type your last name and minutes spent in class on the appropriate date, “Crawford (30)” for example.  This student was in Andrew Crawford’s class for 30 minutes.  For those students that do not attend their assigned sessions, we will be collecting them at the end of their last block class and delivering them to office hours.
