WWW Thanks– As you can see in the “Kudos” and “Jacob’s Journal” sections there were a lot of people to thank for their work in the service of our students.
Assembly Schedule Friday, October 2– Â StuCo’s first assembly will take place Friday, October 2nd from 2:30-3:00. Â We will be highlighting the 9th and 10th grade WWW trips and some other fun led by our student leaders. Â Here is the assembly bell schedule for the day. Â We are trying a new format at the very end of the week on Friday afternoon as a celebration of a finished week. Â Students will come to your advisory at the end of the day. Â Take roll and quickly escort them to the auditorium for this assembly. Â Make sure that they bring their bags, so they can head home at the conclusion of the events.
International Day– This year’s International Activities take place on a single day for the high school this year. Â The high school will participate in the Parade of Flags from 8:15-8:45. Â HS teachers will take roll then lead their students to the back ES playground at 8:05, so you can arrive by 8:10. Â We will organize by country there and will march together to the quad field by the HS for a whole school photo then return to class.
Starting at 2:30 in the afternoon we will be having an international day food festival. Â This event will take place on the ES field (weather permitting). Â At 2:30 walk with your students and their bags to the ES field. Â Students are not allowed to leave school until 3pm. Â Let them know that there is FREE food.
We encourage teachers to stay and enjoy the festivities after school. Â There are NO ASA’s for any division on this day. Â This will be our CASA (Community After School Activity)
Parent/Teacher Conferences– Our parent/teacher conferences take place on Thursday, Oct 8 (4-8pm) and Friday, Oct 9 (8am-1pm) in the MS gym. Â We will be in the MS gym with the MS staff (more specifics to follow). Â There is a 12:15 early dismissal for students on October 8th. Â If you need to go home to freshen up and check in with your family, feel free to leave and return before 3:30 to set up for conferences. Â Additionally, we will have food here for staff that do not return home or get hungry during the evening from 3-8pm in the MS faculty lounge.
You will need to have your fully charged laptop computers with charging cords and any other assessment documentation you feel relevant to share with parents. Â Additionally, please treat this day as we did for our HS Curriculum Night with more of a professional dress. Â Please let me, Ms. Thao or your department head know if you have any questions.
Grade Book Comments– Thursday, October 8th is the end of the 1st quarter. All grades and comments are to be posted on PowerSchool by 3pm on this day even though they are still “grades in progress”.
All work is to be graded prior to October 8th in order to be inputted to PS by this date.  There are to be summative assessments recorded by this date, as well as any formative work.
If students are missing a summative assessment then it is OK to use “I” (incomplete) as a final grade (as per assessment policy in the high school). Zero may be used as a grade only for formative work not completed.
Comments for each student will be necessary on PowerSchool reports as has been the practice. Comments are to be personal and learning-focused and should allow for parents and students to understand areas of strength and areas in need of growth. As this is an official school report, official PowerSchool names are to be used to reference each student.
For example: If mentioned in the formal way (“Quang Liu Tuan Gip), then (“Derek”) would be fine at the beginning of the comment and subsequent mentions may be the nickname, or formal name, only. This will conserve valuable character space.
If an “I” is given (see above paragraph) then the circumstances should be referenced in the comment for that student. Comments should appear in the S1 column in PowerSchool and should not exceed 500 characters.
