Dear Faculty and Staff,

It has been a truly joyous day! Congratulations to every one of you! And thank you for making the start of the school year special for every student and parent.

I tried to capture some of the joy in my letter to parents. But I wish that every parent could have witnessed the smiles and excitement on their children’s faces today.

It was a great day to be an SSIS dragon!

Dear SSIS Parents,

If today is any measure, we can certainly say that the school year is off to a great start. This morning, I had the pleasure of personally welcoming many of you and your children. Both new and returning students marveled at the progress of the construction and the changes they saw walking in.

The first day at school presents an opportunity to see our new investments and infrastructure at work. And today was no different. Our new turnstile/check-in system offers unparalleled security, and we recognize that it’s first run with all students made it a little longer to get in and out of campus. We are working hard to refine the system and appreciate your patience.

But nothing took away from the joy and excitement that came from students reconnecting with friends and classmates, seeing their teachers, and returning to our welcoming and warm community.

As the year gets underway, we have many exciting opportunities, several of which are planned by our PTA, for everyone – students, parents, faculty and staff to gather and be an active part of this wonderful community.

On that note, I’d like to remind you of the PTA Welcome Coffee this Friday, August 11 at 8:15 am in the Auditorium. You will hear from me about some of the things you can expect this year, and you will hear from PTA President Sophia Woo and other representatives about the incredible plans they have for you and your children! This session is always well-attended and is a great opportunity for you to meet and connect with other SSIS parents over coffee and light refreshments. I hope to see you there!
