WASC Visiting Team at SSIS next week

Dear Faculty,

This weekend a group of six educators from around Asia will arrive at SSIS for five days of inspections starting on Sunday, 19 March 2017. We have spent the last year and a half producing a Self-Study in which we have examined our strengths and our areas for needed growth. This group, representing the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), has read our self-study closely and will now visit to see how accurately we have captured SSIS today.

You may see these individuals around campus next week and so we would like to introduce them to you. They have an important responsibility in verifying the quality of SSIS and making a recommendation to WASC, our accrediting agency. On Thursday afternoon next week, 23 March 2017, at 3:15 pm in the SSIS Auditorium, they will report to our community on what they saw and heard during the week. All faculty are invited to attend.

They may stop you on campus next week to ask you about your impressions of the school and your experience at SSIS. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers; your openness and candor will help them write a stronger report.

Here is a list of our visitors.

Dawn Rock, WASC Committee Chair, HS Principal, Kaoshiung American School (Taiwan)
Brent Brayko, HS Assoc. Principal for Teaching and Learning, Hong Kong International School (Hong Kong)
Mark Fox, Deputy Head of School, Independent Schools Riau (Indonesia)
Darryl Harding, Secondary Assistant Principal & MYP Coordinator, Gyeonggi Suwon International School (Korea)
Robert Ledlie, MS Head of Mathematics Department, Ruamrudee International School (Thailand)
Danielle Rich, Elementary School Principal, Korea International School (Korea)

Many of you have put a great deal of time into preparing for this visit and we are grateful. We know you will make the committee feel welcomed while they are here at SSIS.

Sincerely yours,

Mark Iver Sylte, Head of School
