Jacob’s Journal: November 13
|I have marvelled at the work of the House League group this semester.  This concept was just a small kernel of an idea back in May of last year when the High School Leadership Team facilitated a discussion about the direction of the high school.  As we started the year and discussed a variety of these potential initiatives, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical.  It seemed too ambitious and intangible for me to even wrap my head around.  At the same time, I heard from a few other staff that were worried about taking on too many things at the start of the year.  However, there was significant energy and leadership behind it.
Over the last few months I have dropped into their meetings, listened to their progress and answered questions.  Mostly, I was just a fly on the wall trying not to get in the way of their momentum.  One of the major reasons why this group was successful was that this initiative is completely teacher led and driven.  This group saw a need and decided to meet it.  As we roll out the House League to our students, let us fully embrace the work that this group started and support it fully.  I am confident that the culture of our school will benefit from this greatly.  Moreover, there is an important lesson to be learned about our collective power.  The potential impact of a group of determined teachers can never be underestimated.
