Weekly Update (Graduation Edition): May 30 – June 3

As we prepare to say farewell to the class of 2016 this Saturday, we have a group of amazing educators that are leaving the HS division this year and “graduating” to new and different experiences.  Some are moving back to their home country, some to a new international post and some going “back to school’ themselves as students.  Whatever the location or next experience, we are extremely grateful for the contributions of this group of teachers at SSIS and our division.

Please join me in a new tradition in the HS for saying goodbye or I like to say “until next time”.  On Friday, June 3 starting at 2pm in the MPR we will acknowledge these contributions together.  There’s not much to do in preparation for this event accept come ready to share stories of your colleagues.  Each department head will introduce the member(s) leaving their section and say a little about them and then open it up to the remainder of the HS staff to chime in.  Over the next week please think about the teachers listed below.  What experience would you like to share with them and your colleagues that you have appreciated, what have you seen them do in the interest of our students,  what funny story do you have to lighten the mood and much more.

Marcia Adams, Charmaine Basel, Kris Bumpus, Shelley Burge, Colin Bush, David Doty, Tad Herrold, Nick Miller, Heather Mooney, and Robert Mooney

Have a great weekend,

Jacob

Tim Chute Visit– Our assistant principal starting in the 2016-17 school year will be visiting SSIS from Friday, May 27th to Monday, May 30th.  We will have a reception after school on May 27 from 3:15-4:00 in the MPR to meet Tim and his family.  While he will be busy during the trip, we hope to stop into some classrooms to give him a sense of what our school looks like.  If appropriate you may introduce Dr. Chute to your classroom, otherwise we will try to be flies on the wall.  You may also see Tim’s son, Simon, who will be a Junior next shadowing students on Friday or Monday as well.  His wife Lisa and eldest son Max (12th grader) may also be on campus.  If you see them around campus please welcome them.

End of Year Send Off– On Friday, June 3rd from 2-3pm we will be honoring the contributions of our staff that are leaving this year.  We will have some food, drinks and share stories about our amazing staff that are setting out on new adventures.

Graduation Information– Graduation is just around the corner and I wanted to include a couple of reminders.  Graduation is a formal event, so make sure you are dressed accordingly.  The school bus will pick up staff at SSIS at 2:45 sharp.  When we arrive at the GEM center, we will be hanging out in the same area as our graduates.  Once graduation begins, you will be cued to move out of the waiting room (with graduates) to the main entrance of the reception hall.   You will enter the doors from the foyer, walk down the center aisle of the hall to the stage and turn right.  There will be reserved seats set aside for you on the first few rows on the right side of the hall.    At the end of the reception, a bus will return you to SSIS at 6pm.
