Congratulations on Successful Quarter One!

“Remember to celebrate milestones as you prepare for the road ahead.” Nelson Mandela

Dear Faculty, Staff and Leadership Team,
We started off the year speaking about milestones,  and this is a time for all of you to celebrate the end of a fantastic first quarter of the 2018-2019 school year.  Thank you for the care and dedication you have shown to the intellectual and personal development of our 1108 students, for the trusting relationships you have developed with their parents, and the collaborations developed within and across divisions.  Also, congratulations on very successful conferences! I wish you all a relaxing and rejeuvenating holiday next week; you deserve it!

It’s been a great quarter at every level. Below are a few highlights:

  • ES Division: The public speaking opportunities in ES were highly successful and applauded by teachers, parents and students. ES grades 1-5 are using a Super Unit Revision Process and are well on their way to identify major summative assessments for upcoming first Super Units. The New Faculty Orientation program for new elementary teachers (involving 15 hours of training every other week) is providing great support to new teachers.
  •  MS Division: MS celebrated the successful implementation of an extended orientation/transition program where the full faculty worked together to support all students in starting the year successfully.
  •  HS Division: Our Dragon mathletes won the Warry Cup in math and South East Asia Mathematics Competition in Jakarta; almost every student received an individual award and 5 students have qualified for the world competition in Melbourne later this year.  The HS introduced a grade 11 retreat for our students during the Week Without Walls program. This brand-new trip brought students and advisors together for team building and service projects in the Cat Tien National Forest area.
  • Curriculum:Vertical articulation of units of study for all courses is nearing completion and articulation of assessed standards by unit is in process. Two successful trainings held at SSIS during the first quarter: CFG Institute for SSIS Faculty and Staff and EARCOS Weekend Workshop on Emotional Coaching.
  • Athletics: First ever SSIS golf team. SSIS hosted the first ever friendly cross-county running meet for ES and MS runners. JV2 boys and girls volleyball teams took 2nd place in tournament at SSIS.
  • Arts, Design & STEM: Students tinkered, built on their ideas, and incorporated design in MakerSpaces in every division.
  • Admissions & Marketing: 6 % increase is enrollment over last year. 246 new students at SSIS this year and 3 new nationalities. HS profile published. 1000+ followers on Instagram and over 8400 on FB. Launched the eNews notices on Fridays. Launched Dragon Dialogues on FB.
  • AS:Successful implementation of gate pass protocol for added security.
  • AS:Introduction of International SOS to support students, faculty and staff with health and other emergencies.
  • YOURS:The many personal and professional milestones every one has experienced individually.

All good wishes for a wonderful holiday!
