Appointments for 2016-2017: Fox, Butz, Butz, and Khambalia

Dear SSIS Faculty –

We are pleased to share with you some of our hires for the new school year. Many of you have contributed to our searches through participating in Skype calls and answering candidate questions and we are grateful for your assistance.

Kattina Fox

Kattina Fox earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education from Western Washington University and a Masters in Education from Antioch College. Kattina holds a Washington State Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education and Middle School Math and Science. She began her career in education as a Marine Educator/Science Instructor for the Marine Science Institute, where she taught hands-on estuary ecology and marine biology experiences to students from Kindergarten through adults. Kattina then served as a grades 4 and 5 Resident Teacher with the University Child Development School and then taught a grades 1-4 multi-age program at North Creek School, both in Washington State. Kattina has been middle school science teacher for one year at SSIS following four years Middle School Science at Singapore American School, where she established a K-12 Environmental Learning Program, and served five years as a Middle School Science teacher at Chinook Middle School in Washington, where she supervised after-school STEM programs, including robotics.

Ryan Butz

Ryan Butz earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Geoscience from Denison University and a Masters of Science for Teachers from Pace University. Ryan has been a middle school science, geography and history teacher at the American International School of Bolivia for the past three years. Prior to that, he taught middle school science at East New York Family Academy Middle School for three years. Ryan joins SSIS this summer with his wife Polly Cline.

Polly Cline Butz

Polly Cline earned a Bachelor’s degree sociology and Pre Med from the University of Chicago and a Masters in Teaching from Pace University. Polly, has been an IB Biology teacher at the American International School of Bolivia for the past three years. Prior to that she taught middle school science in the Bronx. Polly joins her husband, Ryan Butz, when they arrive later this summer.

Andrea Khambalia

Andrea Khambalia earned a Bachelor’s degree from McMasters University, a Master’s in English Literature from the University of Victoria, and a second Bachelor’s degree in Education from Brock University. Andrea has taught middle school language arts and social studies at Anglo-American School of Sofia for the past three years. Prior to that, Andrea called both the American School of Barcelona (6 years) and Graded, The American School of Sao Paulo (3 years), her home.
