Updates and EARCOS Leadership Conference Attendance

Good morning Faculty & Staff,
I hope the holiday provided you with time for friends and family and an opportunity to engage in the pursuits that feed the soul and refresh the body. May this second quarter be filled with great rewards and surmountable challenges!

This past week wasn’t a holiday for all at SSIS. Chris Beanes, Facilities Manager, and his team worked diligently every day to further enhance the SSIS Campus. Please take time this week to thank Chris and his team for their excellent work on the many different improvements listed below:

Renovations to the Administration office space.  Three new meeting rooms were added in the lobby to accommodate groups from 4 to 6 people per room.  These can be reserved by staff for visitors and other functions.  The office area was further remodeled to accommodate additional staff, including a new curriculum director office. David Chadwell’s office is now in this main administrative building.
Parking lot renovations.  A new raised sidewalk, along with a crosswalk, added in the parking lot for separated pedestrian movement.  New speed bumps and paved areas added.  Bollards added to help direct traffic flow.  A bioswale for drainage during monsoon season has been built as well.  New signage will follow shortly after. Parents will be informed of upgraded safety regulations.
Various furnishings.  Some new furniture for ES/HS and soundproofing projects for MS/HS/ES buildings completed.
All in all, significant improvements were accommodated in one short week.

EARCOS Leadership Conference – Administrators attending

The EARCOS Leadership Conference is hosted in KL this week. The following administrators will attend from Tuesday to Sunday: Dr. Dan Keller (Elementary Principal), Shelley Wowchuk (Athletics/Activities Director), David Chadwell (Curriculum Director), David Perkin (ICT Director), Katie Zimmermann (Admissions Director), Jacob Hendrickson (HS Principal), Wai Mun Fong (Deputy Head of School for Finance and Operations), Ha Noi Nguyen (HR Director) and me. The theme for this year’s conference is EARCOS 50th: Celebrating Our Legacy; Inspiring Our Future. We look forward to sharing and collaborating with our fellow regional administrators. In our absence, the Senior Leadership Team member in charge of the school is Molly Burger (MS Principal). She will be assisted by Dr. Tim Chute (HS Associate Principal).

On a personal note, our villa at Waterfront was also renovated during the holiday. Gerry and I look forward to hosting faculty and staff in the coming months. Stay tuned for more on that!

Have a wonderful week!
